A trip to Elgin

There was another planned power cut so I asked John if he wanted to go to Elgin to the visit the local studies section in the library aaaaand of course this turned into an epic trip along the lesser known routes. And it was all the better for it! So it took us 3.5 hours to get to the library and then afterwards we had a truly epic route home along the coast with many questions posed and some answered 🙂 I am so lucky to live in this area!

What did we learn?

  • Letterfourie House can be glimpsed from the Fishwives Path beyond Craigmin bridge (which by the way is a nice walk up from Buckie, parking available at Tesco)
  • Drybridge is so known because it had a “dry bridge” up the hill from the bridge over the burn which carried the footpath over the road. So the fishwives could shelter under it during rainstorms
  • St Gregorys Church refurbished itself with a million from the lottery then closed down to visitors!?
  • The Womens Land Army monument is in the mdidle of nowhere!
  • Cloddach bridge is still closed but it was cool to see it
  • Birnie kirk, the site of a pictish power centre is in a lovely location .. although the remaining pictish stone ain’t in great condition nowadays
  • The mill in Elgin is still derelict – but actually i was talking about another place
  • Pluscarden abbey wow what a great place to visit and they do good apple juice too
  • Elgin castle is coool – sadly destroyed by the hammer of the scots, now with a twatty column of the marble stealer. And in another incident a house beside it is burnt out – darn it was arson
  • lunch at the library was tasty
  • local studies has cool stuff
  • lossiemouth has a nice harbour
  • lossie also has an amazing view down over the mouth of the river lossie
  • garmouth is a funny old village with lots of different architectural styles
  • kingston isn anmed after kingston upon hull!?
  • spey bay is a lovely place
  • i am exhausted after all that
