After picking up a fbook marketplace item near the station, I thought I&#8217;d check out Battle hill, purely for the walk and then of course it turns out it is itself a beautiful monument with a lot of history!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsurprisingly, the hill takes its name from an alleged battle. The first thing of interest was the quarry which is charmingly overgrown. I enjoyed my ramble up past it through the trees to the site of recent excavations &#8211; since 2011, evidence has been recovered for a hut enclosure, a cairn and a possible hill fort!
